I first created my website for class courses, courtesy of the University of Mary Washington’s Domain of One’s Own initiative which allows students and faculty to a free domain name that students can then take with them after they graduate. Throughout my time at UMW, I created two different subdomains through this main one, with one blog for an online course I took called DS106: Digital Storytelling, while the other was for the monthlong study abroad trip I went on in July 2019 to Paris, France. Feel free to take a look! I had a lot of fun creating the posts for these blogs-even if I think my WordPress skills have gotten better since then!
The Adventures of the Avid Amateur Researcher
For a little bit of background information, the theme for our Fall 2018 Digital Storytelling class was legends, myths, and folklore, which of course are forms, so to speak, of intangible heritage! For this class, we had to complete various digital activities each week, blogging about the activities, the processes we used while undertaking the activities, and show our final result. For many of the activities we used characters that we made up for the class. My character was Maria Segreti, a cryptozoologist and folklorist. I chose her based off of the title I gave my blog-The Adventures of the Avid Amateur Researcher-though she is also based off of my love/fear of the Animal Planet show Lost Tapes that I watched a lot when I was younger. It was great fun getting to research and use different legends and folktales to complete these assignments!

Paris 19
Then, in July 2019 I was fortunate to be able to go to Paris with UMW professor Dr. Dr. Andrea Livi-Smith in her HISP 470: Preservation Abroad class. For this class, each student had to blog a couple times a week. It was incredible being able to learn about the architectural and urban history of this millennia-old city, while also being able to visit fascinating museums, take in the beautiful sights of this famous City of Lights, and enjoy the delicious French cuisine. I took a lot of pictures during this study abroad-which is why the blog posts seem to be quite long! Who wouldn’t take a lot of pictures, when the buildings are so magnificent?
